ANCHORAGE, the United States -- The United States should stop its interference in China's internal affairs, and avoid confrontation between the two major countries, said a senior Chinese official here on Thursday.
Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the start of a two-day high-level strategic dialogue with the United States in the Alaskan city of Anchorage. DAR ES SALAAM -- Samia Suluhu Hassan was on Friday sworn in as Tanzanian president, becoming the country's first female president.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, following the death of President John Magufuli on Wednesday. After the ceremony, Hassan received a 21-gun-salute and inspected a guard of honor mounted by the Tanzania People's Defense Forces.

MEHTARLAM, Afghanistan -- Six militants have been confirmed dead and two others injured as military planes pounded a Taliban hideout in Alishing district of Afghanistan's eastern Laghman province on Thursday, said an army statement released here Friday.
The Taliban militants were gathered in Manjan area of the restive Alishing district to attack security checkpoints but the fighting planes in pre-emptive sorties struck the militants, killing six on the spot and injuring two others, the statement said. (Afghanistan-Militants)

JAKARTA -- The Indonesian police on Friday arrested eight suspected terrorists in the country's province of North Sumatra, local provincial police said.
The North Sumatra Police's spokesman Hadi Wahyudi said that these suspected extremists were apprehended by the National Police's Densus 88 counterterrorism squad in separate. (Indonesia-Terrorists)
